AI-powered search is revolutionizing the way shoppers discover products online. With tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and AI Overviews, consumers can get quick answers to their shopping-related queries without having to click through multiple links. This presents a great opportunity for brands to gain more exposure. However, it also poses a challenge of replacing organic search traffic and ensuring that their products are prominently featured in AI-generated responses.
To address this challenge, a new set of generative engine optimization (GEO) tools has emerged. These tools focus on measuring and improving how products and brands are showcased in AI-generated answers. While most GEO platforms concentrate on page-level optimization and citations, there are a few that offer SKU-level capabilities, allowing businesses to track and optimize individual products in AI responses.
After evaluating numerous GEO platforms, I have identified three recommendations that are suitable for small and mid-sized businesses:
- Writesonic:
Writesonic is a platform that specializes in product page optimization. It enables merchants to rewrite and optimize individual product pages or articles for genAI. The workflow involves identifying target pages, analyzing content in Writesonic, optimizing based on content metrics, and updating product pages directly on platforms like Shopify, BigCommerce, or WordPress.Overview:
- Pricing: Tiered plans starting at $49 per month.
- Ease of use: Self-service with minimal learning curve.
- Integrations: Direct integration with WordPress; export functionality for Shopify and BigCommerce.
- Content optimization: Strong, with capabilities to rewrite product pages and articles.
Limitations:
- Does not automatically identify underperforming SKUs.
- Lacks historical performance tracking.
- No SKU-level competitive benchmarking.
- Peec AI:
Peec AI offers competitive benchmarking services, allowing merchants to track where their products and brands appear in AI-generated answers compared to competitors. While Peec AI does not currently provide content creation or publishing features, its SKU-level analysis can guide optimization efforts.Overview:
- Pricing: Tiered plans starting at €89 per month ($103).
- Ease of use: User-friendly dashboards for quick navigation.
- Integrations: No direct cart integrations.
- Content optimization: Monitoring capabilities without optimization tools.
Limitations:
- Does not offer content optimization or publishing functionality.
- Profound:
Profound is primarily a measurement platform that monitors how brands are represented across AI-powered search engines. While it does not focus on content optimization or publishing, Profound offers in-depth discovery and measurement capabilities to guide SKU-level strategies.Overview:
- Pricing: $499 per month with custom plans available.
- Ease of use: Requires training to fully interpret insights.
- Integrations: No direct ecommerce cart integrations.
- Content optimization: None, as the focus is on measurement.
Limitations:
- Does not provide content optimization or publishing services.
Getting started with improving genAI visibility does not necessarily require expensive tools. Merchants can begin by auditing their presence using free trials or affordable tools like Peec AI. Identifying high-intent prompts and starting small with a few products and categories to track monthly can help businesses adjust and expand their strategies over time.
While AI-generated search may attract first-time customers, it’s important to remember that loyalty programs, email marketing, and exceptional customer service are key factors in retaining and bringing customers back. By leveraging GEO tools effectively, businesses can optimize their online presence and enhance their visibility in AI-powered search results.
